The Belguel Work scandal, which broke out in Agadir, has been making headlines in Morocco and beyond. The scandal revolves around allegations of prostitution, exploitation, and abuse, with several individuals, including a prominent figure known as Belguel, at the center of the controversy.
A systemic reluctance to openly discuss sexual exploitation, combined with laws that penalize the victims rather than protecting them, keeps the industry underground and dangerous.
Servaty’s methodology relied on a systematic pattern of emotional manipulation. According to court documents and victim advocacy groups like the Anaruz network, he seduced more than 70 women by falsely promising marriage, financial stability, and legal emigration to Belgium. Under the guise of mutual trust and these falsified commitments, he convinced the women to engage in sexual acts and pose for highly explicit, graphic photographs and video recordings. While the victims consented to the photography under the impression that the media would remain strictly private, they were entirely unaware of Servaty's true intentions. Consequently, the foreign instigator faced no criminal imprisonment in Morocco, while his victims bore the brunt of legal incarceration and social ruin.
Following years of intense political and legal pressure, the trial of Philippe Servaty finally commenced in Brussels, nearly eight years after the initial exposures.
Because extramarital relations and pornography are strictly prohibited under the Moroccan Penal Code, local authorities arrested several of the local women implicated in the footage. Conversely, the foreign national fled back to Europe.
